Design

The dragon arrives head-first. Antlers standing clear of the skull, mane swept back strand by strand, gold running along the brow and down the whiskers — and behind it, copper flames climbing both shoulders of the ring as though the animal were coming through fire and had not slowed down.

There is no subtle way to wear a dragon. We did not try to find one. What we did instead was make sure that the closer you look, the more there is.

1. The head carved in the round. Not a dragon in relief on a flat face — a head with volume, cut so the brow overhangs the eye and the snout comes forward off the ring. It is the difference between a picture of an animal and an animal.

2. Antlers that stand free. The horns branch away from the skull with air behind them, each tine carved separately. They are the most fragile thing on the piece and the first thing most workshops would flatten into the surface. We left them standing.

3. Gold exactly where the face lives. The horns, the brow ridge, the eyes and the long whiskers are fire-gilded in 24K gold — the classical dian jing, the finishing stroke that gives the creature its gaze. Everything else stays silver, so the gold has nothing to compete with.

4. Whiskers in gold, off the surface. Two gilded whiskers curl away from the snout and float clear of the carving. At this scale they are almost wire, and they have to be gilded without losing their line.

5. Flames in refined red copper. Both shoulders carry flame scrollwork worked in refined red copper — a third metal, warm against the darkened silver, so the dragon reads as soaring through fire-cloud rather than sitting on a band. This is real copper set into the piece, and its colour stays as it is.

6. Auspicious clouds along the sides. The band does not go plain once it leaves the head. Silver cloud scrollwork is carved down both sides, deep-cut and oxidised so the shadow holds — the sky the dragon is moving through, continued all the way round the finger.

7. The seal, answering the dragon. A small fire-gilded plaque sits flush in the polished panel of the band, set the way an imperial seal is pressed into a scroll. In China the seal and the dragon say the same thing from two directions: the dragon is authority in its living form, the seal is authority set down and made binding — nothing was decreed until the seal came down on it. So the two belong on one ring. The dragon holds the face of it; the seal, quietly, countersigns. It is the smallest detail on the piece and the one collectors find last.

8. Finished inside as well as out. The inner band is polished smooth and left entirely plain — no carving to catch, no edges to wear on the finger. A ring this heavy has to be comfortable or it never leaves the drawer.

The Meaning

No creature stands higher in Asia. The dragon is the emblem of supreme authority and of the sacred itself — the totem placed above every other, carried on the robes of emperors and cut into the walls of temples.

But it was never only the ruler's animal. In folk belief the dragon is an auspicious divine beast, the one who governs the sky and commands the rivers and the seas — who brings the rain when the fields are dry, and sends fortune down into the ordinary world. Power at its highest, turned toward blessing rather than away from it.

That is the dragon we carved. Not a threat on the hand. A presence on it.

May authority find you, and may it arrive in your hands as generosity.

Materials & craft

S925 sterling silver, carved by hand. Gold accents are traditional 24K fire-gilding, bonded into the silver at around 900 °C, not plated. Stones are natural and called by their real names.

Every piece is designed and handmade in China and finished by hand under a 40× microscope. How fire-gilding works

How every piece is made

The gold on every piece goes through four stages, each one done by hand.

Swipe to follow each stage

Laying 24K gold leaf onto a hand-carved sterling silver bangle with tweezers
01

Gold leaf, laid by hand

The gold is 24K leaf, thick enough to pick up with tweezers. It is laid onto the silver in small pieces, one section of the carving at a time, and pressed down with a burnisher.

02

Cut under a 40× microscope

Every line is cut with a hand graver. The finest parts, an eye, a whisker, the edge where gold meets silver, are worked under a 40× microscope, where a slip of a tenth of a millimetre would show.

03

Gold only where it belongs

The leaf is worked along each scroll until it follows the carving exactly. Gold goes only where the design asks for it. The rest of the silver is left bare, to be darkened later so the carving reads.

04

Fused by fire at 900°C

Then the torch. At around 900°C, below gold's melting point of 1063°C, the leaf bonds into the silver and becomes part of it. The heat is judged by eye, one area at a time: too cool and the gold lifts later, too hot and the carving underneath is lost.

Afterwards every gilded edge is cut again under the microscope. This is fire-gilding, not ordinary gold plating.

Frequently asked questions

How long does delivery take?

Every piece is held in stock and ships within 1–3 business days (engraved pieces need about 3 more). Delivery with YunExpress then takes 5–8 business days, so most orders arrive within about two weeks. We email your tracking number as soon as the package leaves us.

Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?

No. We pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to. The total at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty, don't pay it; email us and we will settle it.

What is fire-gilding, and how is it different from gold plating?

Gold foil is fused into the sterling silver by heat at around 900°C, then every edge is re-cut by hand under a 40× microscope. The gold becomes part of the piece, a real weight of 24K gold rather than the thin film of ordinary gold plating, so it does not lift, flake or wear thin. More on fire-gilding

Why is the silver dark in places?

The dark recesses are oxidation, added on purpose so the carving reads clearly. It is not tarnish. A soft dry cloth on the raised surfaces is all the cleaning it needs; please don't use silver dip or polishing compound, which would strip the shading.

Can I return or exchange a piece?

Yes. Email us within 30 days of delivery and you can return a piece in the condition you received it for a full refund, with no restocking fee. Rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days. Engraved pieces, consecrated pieces and the Nine-Palace Zodiac Amulet are final sale unless they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. Refund policy

How do I find my ring size?

Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day, and make sure the size clears your knuckle. Our ring size guide has a US size chart and two easy ways to measure at home.

Can I wear it in water?

It depends on the piece. Pieces set with natural stones should come off before swimming or bathing and be wiped dry after contact with water. Each product page lists its stones and its own care notes.

How can I pay?

Checkout is through PayPal, where you can pay with your PayPal balance or with a credit or debit card. Prices are in US dollars.
