Bards of the Land of Snows
“I am a silversmith, and a lay Buddhist of Samye Monastery in Tibet. I named this studio after Kangrinboqe — Mount Kailash, the sacred mountain of the Land of Snows — in the hope of carrying its ancient stories out into the world, one piece of silver at a time.”
— Ren Chuanwei, founder
Why Kangrinboqe
Kangrinboqe is the Tibetan name for Mount Kailash, often translated as “precious jewel of the snows.” It is one of the most sacred mountains in Asia, and pilgrims walk the path around it on foot. We took its name because that is how we think of our work: we did not invent these stories. We only carry them.
What we make
Hand-carved S925 sterling silver in four families: Tibetan Buddhist amulets — vajras, stupas, wind horses and phurbas; the sacred animals and deities of Asia; Norse and Celtic knotwork; and Spirits of Life, the stag, the bear and the forest that were there before anyone named them.
How it is made
- Every piece is carved by hand in S925 sterling silver and finished under a 40× microscope.
- Gold accents are traditional 24K fire-gilding, bonded into the silver at around 900 °C. We do not use the word “plated” anywhere on this site. How fire-gilding works
- Stones go in last, each seated by hand into a cut that already exists.
- The recesses are oxidised on purpose, so that the carving reads with depth.
What we do not claim
We write about what these symbols have meant to the people who made and wore them. That is cultural and historical context: we do not claim that any piece protects you, heals you or changes what happens to you. Every stone is called by its real name — Swiss blue topaz is never sold here as sapphire. Every piece is designed and handmade in China, and none is made by, or presented as made by, Native American artisans.
What comes with every piece
- Free tracked shipping to 47 countries, with all import duties and taxes paid by us
- 30 days to return it, with no restocking fee
- Free cleaning and care for as long as you own it
