Green Tara Thangkas

Our Green Tara thangkas are printed and hand-finished, not hand-painted. Each is our own drawing, printed on heavy card and finished by hand at a temple by elderly lay Buddhists, who set the glass crystals one at a time and trace the outlines in gold glitter.

Green Tara (Tibetan: Drolma, "she who liberates") is the female Buddha of swift, compassionate action, and the most loved female figure in Tibet. She sits with one leg folded and the other stepping down onto a lotus, as if about to rise and help. Here she is drawn eight ways, from crimson and jade green to black and gold and a starry night sky.

As wall art, every piece is the same size: framed at 55 × 71 cm, with an image of 40.2 × 56.2 cm, inside a silk brocade frame-within-a-frame and behind acrylic, ready to hang. That is large enough to hold a wall in a living room, study or meditation corner without taking it over.

Green Tara wall art: the eight designs

The figure stays the same; the ground behind her sets the mood. Each design is shown in one of four brocades, but any design can take any of the four: Night Sky, Ink & Gold, Crimson Cloud or Warm Sun.

Design Ground colour Default brocade Best room
Green Tara on red Deep red, with red peonies and clouds, under a jewelled arch Crimson Cloud Living room; a pale wall or a room with wood
On crimson with blue peonies Deep vermilion, with blue peonies Crimson Cloud Living room; strong contrast on a pale wall
On night blue with peonies Night blue, full of peonies Night Sky Bedroom or study
With the Five Buddhas and protectors Deep blue, with clouds and peonies Night Sky A wall you can stand close to
On jade green Jade green, with dark clouds edged in gold Ink & Gold A practice corner; the calmest of the eight
Black and gold Black, with gold foliage, trees and clouds Night Sky A white or light grey wall where the gold can show
Blue and silver Deep blue, with pale silver flowers Ink & Gold A modern, cool or minimal room
Under a starry sky with peonies Dark and scattered with stars Ink & Gold Bedroom or a quiet corner

Glass crystals and gold glitter catch side light, so a piece near a window or a lamp changes with the day. Our guide to choosing a Green Tara thangka walks through all eight in more detail.

Green Tara thangka FAQ

Is a Green Tara thangka from us hand-painted?

No. The image is printed on heavy card from our own drawing, made to the traditional proportions of thangka painting. What is done by hand comes afterwards: elderly lay Buddhists at a temple set every glass crystal one at a time and trace the outlines in gold glitter with a fine brush.

How big is it?

Every thangka comes in one size. The frame measures 55 × 71 cm (21.7 × 28 in) and the image inside it 40.2 × 56.2 cm (15.8 × 22.1 in).

Can I choose a different brocade?

Yes. Any of the eight designs can be framed in any of the four silk brocades: Night Sky, Ink & Gold, Crimson Cloud or Warm Sun. A brocade that echoes the ground feels unified; one that contrasts makes the centre stand out.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Yes. It comes framed behind acrylic, with two hooks at the top, inside the brocade border you choose. To keep the colors bright, hang it out of direct sunlight. More in our guide to hanging and caring for a thangka.

How long does delivery take, and are there duties?

Each thangka is finished to order and ships in 3–5 business days; with Temple consecration, it ships in 5–7 business days. Delivery by air then takes about 10–14 business days. Shipping is free and tracked, and we pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to.

Can I return it?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, for a full refund with no restocking fee. Thangkas with Temple consecration are final sale unless they arrive damaged. See our refund policy.
