Design
A vajra is made to be held. It stands upright in the hand, level with the heart, and it has stood that way for a thousand years. Nothing about it was ever designed to hang from a chain.
Turn it on its side and it becomes something else. The two five-pronged heads open outward like a pair of wings, the long axis lies flat across the chest, and the object stops being an implement you carry and becomes one you wear. That single turn is the whole design. Everything after it is carving.
1. A vajra laid across the chest. An upright pendant twists on its cord and turns its edge to the world. Laid horizontally, this one cannot. It settles flat, shows its full silhouette from the first glance, and stays where it was put — the reason ritual form and wearable form so rarely agree, and the reason we spent the design on making them agree here.
2. Five prongs, at both ends. From each lotus knop, four outer prongs rise and curve inward toward a straight central spike. Five at one end, five at the other, carved to mirror each other closely enough that the piece reads the same whichever way it is turned. The symmetry is not decorative. A vajra that is not balanced is not a vajra.
3. The garuda at the waist. Where a ritual dorje carries a plain sphere at its centre, this one carries a face. The garuda's head is cut in the round at the midpoint, beak forward, holding the two halves of the thunderbolt together — the bird that eats poison set exactly where the object concentrates its force.
4. Gold only where the face comes alive. The eyes, the ridge of the brows and the beak are fire-gilded in 24K gold. Nothing else is. Gilding an area this small is the hardest thing on the piece: the gold has to bond inside a working window of about 160 degrees and stop at the edge of a brow line barely a millimetre across. Gild a fraction too far and the face goes blank. Done right, the head lifts out of the silver and looks back at you.
5. Eight garnets, set by hand. Natural stones, dark red, seated one at a time into silver that has already been carved — the harder order of work, and the only one that lets the setting follow the carving instead of the carving giving way to the setting. Against oxidised silver they read almost black until light reaches them.
6. Finished in the recesses. The deep cuts between the prongs are oxidised and then polished back by hand, so shadow stays in the carving and brightness stays on the ridges. It is the slowest stage and the one nobody is meant to notice.
The Meaning
Vajra carries two meanings at once: the thunderbolt, and the diamond. One cuts through anything. The other cannot be cut by anything. Held together in a single word, they describe a mind that is not brittle — one that meets what comes without shattering and without needing to harden.
The five prongs are the five wisdoms, one for each of the five buddha families: the mirror that shows things as they are, the evenness that stops ranking them, the discernment that still tells them apart, the wisdom that finishes what it starts, and the open space the other four move in. Four curve inward toward the fifth the way the four directions gather around a centre.
And the garuda is the one who eats poison. Hatched already able to fly, it takes venom without being harmed by it — which is why, in the Himalaya, it is invoked against the kinds of harm that work from the inside: old resentment, fixation, the slow poisons a person carries without noticing.
Together they make a plain statement. What cannot be broken, guarded by what cannot be poisoned.
May nothing break you, and may nothing you have swallowed be allowed to stay.
Materials & craft
S925 sterling silver, carved by hand. Gold accents are traditional 24K fire-gilding, bonded into the silver at around 900 °C, not plated. Stones are natural and called by their real names.

How every piece is made
The gold on every piece goes through four stages, each one done by hand.
Swipe to follow each stage

Gold leaf, laid by hand
The gold is 24K leaf, thick enough to pick up with tweezers. It is laid onto the silver in small pieces, one section of the carving at a time, and pressed down with a burnisher.

Cut under a 40× microscope
Every line is cut with a hand graver. The finest parts, an eye, a whisker, the edge where gold meets silver, are worked under a 40× microscope, where a slip of a tenth of a millimetre would show.

Gold only where it belongs
The leaf is worked along each scroll until it follows the carving exactly. Gold goes only where the design asks for it. The rest of the silver is left bare, to be darkened later so the carving reads.

Fused by fire at 900°C
Then the torch. At around 900°C, below gold's melting point of 1063°C, the leaf bonds into the silver and becomes part of it. The heat is judged by eye, one area at a time: too cool and the gold lifts later, too hot and the carving underneath is lost.
Afterwards every gilded edge is cut again under the microscope. This is fire-gilding, not ordinary gold plating.

Frequently asked questions
How long does delivery take?
Every piece is held in stock and ships within 1–3 business days (engraved pieces need about 3 more). Delivery with YunExpress then takes 5–8 business days, so most orders arrive within about two weeks. We email your tracking number as soon as the package leaves us.
Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?
No. We pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to. The total at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty, don't pay it; email us and we will settle it.
What is fire-gilding, and how is it different from gold plating?
Gold foil is fused into the sterling silver by heat at around 900°C, then every edge is re-cut by hand under a 40× microscope. The gold becomes part of the piece, a real weight of 24K gold rather than the thin film of ordinary gold plating, so it does not lift, flake or wear thin. More on fire-gilding
Why is the silver dark in places?
The dark recesses are oxidation, added on purpose so the carving reads clearly. It is not tarnish. A soft dry cloth on the raised surfaces is all the cleaning it needs; please don't use silver dip or polishing compound, which would strip the shading.
Can I return or exchange a piece?
Yes. Email us within 30 days of delivery and you can return a piece in the condition you received it for a full refund, with no restocking fee. Rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days. Engraved pieces, consecrated pieces and the Nine-Palace Zodiac Amulet are final sale unless they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. Refund policy
How do I find my ring size?
Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day, and make sure the size clears your knuckle. Our ring size guide has a US size chart and two easy ways to measure at home.
Can I wear it in water?
It depends on the piece. Pieces set with natural stones should come off before swimming or bathing and be wiped dry after contact with water. Each product page lists its stones and its own care notes.
How can I pay?
Checkout is through PayPal, where you can pay with your PayPal balance or with a credit or debit card. Prices are in US dollars.
