Design
Seven months, from the first sketch to the piece you are looking at. Design, draft, redraft, final drawing, and then the making — one full cycle, start to finish, for one bangle. Carved by hand from a single piece of S925.
This is the piece that took us outside our own circle. We chose to make something this involved knowing exactly what it would cost us in time, and what came back is a cuff with nothing quite like it to be set beside. Of everything we have made, this is the one we point at.
1. The world tree at the centre. One tree holds the middle of the band — the world tree, which is also the tree of life. In the old cosmologies it stands at the centre of everything and joins what is below to what is above. Its roots go down into the dark and hold; its branches keep going anyway. That is the whole of what it means: the centre of the world, and the stubbornness of living things.
2. Two coronation swords. A sword stands on either side of the tree — not a weapon of the field, but the sword laid on a shoulder at a crowning. Authority, and the standing that comes with it. Into each pommel is set a single Swiss blue topaz, blue as sky against blue as sea: one for what is above you, one for what lies beneath.
3. The eternal knot on the hilts. Each hilt carries the Celtic eternal knot, a single line that crosses over and under itself and never arrives anywhere. Nothing in it has begun, and nothing in it has ended. It is the oldest way anyone found to draw the word always.
4. Bramble along the blades. Celtic thorn vines wind the length of both blades. We put them there deliberately: the road to anything worth reaching is thorned the entire way. The blade is not decoration laid over the thorns — it is the answer to them. You cut through, and you arrive.
5. Sun, moon and stars at the ends. The terminals of the cuff carry three figures set as a tripod: the sun, the moon and the stars. Hope, a smooth passage, and a direction to steer by. Three things worth having on any road.
6. Sun and moon in the same sky. That the sun and the moon should appear together has always been read as a good omen — the sign that the thing a person has been hoping for is going to arrive. It is the last figure carved into this bangle, and it is the wish we would send out with it.
7. The gold goes where the eye should go. Traditional 24K fire-gilding picks out the Tree of Life in its roundel, the two crescent frames that hold it, the scrolls beside them, both sword blades and the braided grips. Everything else stays in darkened silver, so the gold reads as the structure of the piece rather than a coating over it.
The Meaning
A tree at the centre. Two swords beside it. Thorns the whole length of both blades, and at the far ends, the sun and the moon and the stars.
Read it in order and it makes a plain sentence. Stand at the centre of your own life. Carry whatever authority is yours without apologising for it. Expect the thorns — the road was never going to be smooth, and the thorns are not evidence that you took a wrong turn. And when the sun and the moon come up in the same sky, take it the way it has always been meant: as the day the thing you were hoping for finds you.
Who This Was Made For
There is a particular person this was made for: the one standing at a threshold. The promotion that is also a weight. The move to a city where nobody knows them yet. The degree finished at forty. The year they finally began the thing they had been circling for a decade.
A coronation sword is not handed to someone who has already arrived. It is laid on the shoulder of someone about to begin. So if you are buying this for another person, that is the moment to give it in — not after the hard part is behind them, but on the morning they walk into it. It says the one thing worth saying at a threshold: I know what this is going to cost you, and I think you are equal to it.
May the road be thorned, and may you arrive anyway.
Materials & craft
S925 sterling silver, carved by hand. Gold accents are traditional 24K fire-gilding, bonded into the silver at around 900 °C, not plated. Stones are natural and called by their real names.
Every piece is designed and handmade in China and finished by hand under a 40× microscope. How fire-gilding works

How every piece is made
The gold on every piece goes through four stages, each one done by hand.
Swipe to follow each stage

Gold leaf, laid by hand
The gold is 24K leaf, thick enough to pick up with tweezers. It is laid onto the silver in small pieces, one section of the carving at a time, and pressed down with a burnisher.

Cut under a 40× microscope
Every line is cut with a hand graver. The finest parts, an eye, a whisker, the edge where gold meets silver, are worked under a 40× microscope, where a slip of a tenth of a millimetre would show.

Gold only where it belongs
The leaf is worked along each scroll until it follows the carving exactly. Gold goes only where the design asks for it. The rest of the silver is left bare, to be darkened later so the carving reads.

Fused by fire at 900°C
Then the torch. At around 900°C, below gold's melting point of 1063°C, the leaf bonds into the silver and becomes part of it. The heat is judged by eye, one area at a time: too cool and the gold lifts later, too hot and the carving underneath is lost.
Afterwards every gilded edge is cut again under the microscope. This is fire-gilding, not ordinary gold plating.

Frequently asked questions
How long does delivery take?
Every piece is held in stock and ships within 1–3 business days (engraved pieces need about 3 more). Delivery with YunExpress then takes 5–8 business days, so most orders arrive within about two weeks. We email your tracking number as soon as the package leaves us.
Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?
No. We pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to. The total at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty, don't pay it; email us and we will settle it.
What is fire-gilding, and how is it different from gold plating?
Gold foil is fused into the sterling silver by heat at around 900°C, then every edge is re-cut by hand under a 40× microscope. The gold becomes part of the piece, a real weight of 24K gold rather than the thin film of ordinary gold plating, so it does not lift, flake or wear thin. More on fire-gilding
Why is the silver dark in places?
The dark recesses are oxidation, added on purpose so the carving reads clearly. It is not tarnish. A soft dry cloth on the raised surfaces is all the cleaning it needs; please don't use silver dip or polishing compound, which would strip the shading.
Can I return or exchange a piece?
Yes. Email us within 30 days of delivery and you can return a piece in the condition you received it for a full refund, with no restocking fee. Rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days. Engraved pieces, consecrated pieces and the Nine-Palace Zodiac Amulet are final sale unless they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. Refund policy
How do I find my ring size?
Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day, and make sure the size clears your knuckle. Our ring size guide has a US size chart and two easy ways to measure at home.
Can I wear it in water?
It depends on the piece. Pieces set with natural stones should come off before swimming or bathing and be wiped dry after contact with water. Each product page lists its stones and its own care notes.
How can I pay?
Checkout is through PayPal, where you can pay with your PayPal balance or with a credit or debit card. Prices are in US dollars.
