Thirty-one grams of solid S925 silver, carved as a round shield seven millimetres deep: knotwork around the rim, crossed axes behind, two ravens framing the Allfather's braided beard. Design

Five months. Hundreds of refinements. One pendant worthy of the Allfather.

Thirty-one grams of solid S925 sterling silver, seven millimetres deep. This is a round shield in miniature — Celtic knotwork running the full outer ring, twin axes crossed behind, and at the centre the Allfather himself, carved so deep that the ravens' wings stand clear of the ground behind them.

The first thing anyone looks at is the eyepatch. It is fire-gilded gold, stamped with a spiral knot, and it sits exactly where his right eye should be. Gold is the brightest thing on this pendant, and we put it over the wound. That was the decision the whole piece was built around.

His remaining eye is gilded too, warm against all that blackened silver. He is looking straight out at you.

1. Gold placed on the wound, not on the crown

Odin traded an eye at Mímir's well for one drink of wisdom. Most designs hide that. We made it the focal point: a gold disc, engraved with a spiral knot, catching the light before anything else does.

The message is simple. The most valuable thing on this piece marks what he lost, not what he won.

2. A winged helmet with every feather cut separately

The wings sweep up and outward from the helmet, fire-gilded across their full span — the largest area of gold on the pendant. Each feather is a separate cut. Under the loupe you can count the rows.

The helmet crown itself stays silver, worked with Celtic knot bands and Norse ornamental carving across the side plates, so the gold reads as flight rather than decoration.

3. Two ravens, wings open, beaks gilded

Huginn and Muninn — Thought and Memory — sit low on either side, wings spread wide enough to frame the beard, heads turned outward rather than inward. In the poems they fly across all nine worlds at dawn and return at dusk to tell him what they saw.

Only the beaks are gilded. Two small points of gold, open, mid-cry.

4. The beard is the hardest thing on this pendant

The braids cross over and under one another, and every strand has to be cut free of the one beneath it — undercut by hand, from the side, where the graver has almost no room to work. A cast beard reads as one solid mass. This one reads as rope.

Each braid is then bound with a fire-gilded band. These are the smallest gilded surfaces on the whole piece, and in this craft the smallest surfaces are always the hardest: less room for the gold to hold, less room for the hand to correct.

5. Seven millimetres of depth, and the shadow it makes

At 7mm thick this is a high-relief carving, not a stamped disc. Every recess is oxidised black; every raised surface is brought back to bright silver by hand. That contrast is what lets the face read from across a room.

Turn it under a lamp and the shadows shift in the beard and the wing feathers. That movement is the whole reason we carved it this deep.

The Meaning

Odin gave an eye for one drink from Mímir's well. He hung nine nights on the world tree, pierced by his own spear, and came down holding the runes. Nothing he knows was given to him.

Wear him if you have paid for something you know.

May you see further with one eye than most do with two.
May your ravens always find their way home at dusk.
May what you seek be worth what it costs you.

How every piece is made

The gold on every piece goes through four stages, each one done by hand.

Swipe to follow each stage

Laying 24K gold leaf onto a hand-carved sterling silver bangle with tweezers
01

Gold leaf, laid by hand

The gold is 24K leaf, thick enough to pick up with tweezers. It is laid onto the silver in small pieces, one section of the carving at a time, and pressed down with a burnisher.

02

Cut under a 40× microscope

Every line is cut with a hand graver. The finest parts, an eye, a whisker, the edge where gold meets silver, are worked under a 40× microscope, where a slip of a tenth of a millimetre would show.

03

Gold only where it belongs

The leaf is worked along each scroll until it follows the carving exactly. Gold goes only where the design asks for it. The rest of the silver is left bare, to be darkened later so the carving reads.

04

Fused by fire at 900°C

Then the torch. At around 900°C, below gold's melting point of 1063°C, the leaf bonds into the silver and becomes part of it. The heat is judged by eye, one area at a time: too cool and the gold lifts later, too hot and the carving underneath is lost.

Afterwards every gilded edge is cut again under the microscope. This is fire-gilding, not ordinary gold plating.

Frequently asked questions

How long does delivery take?

Every piece is held in stock and ships within 1–3 business days (engraved pieces need about 3 more). Delivery with YunExpress then takes 5–8 business days, so most orders arrive within about two weeks. We email your tracking number as soon as the package leaves us.

Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?

No. We pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to. The total at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty, don't pay it; email us and we will settle it.

What is fire-gilding, and how is it different from gold plating?

Gold foil is fused into the sterling silver by heat at around 900°C, then every edge is re-cut by hand under a 40× microscope. The gold becomes part of the piece, a real weight of 24K gold rather than the thin film of ordinary gold plating, so it does not lift, flake or wear thin. More on fire-gilding

Why is the silver dark in places?

The dark recesses are oxidation, added on purpose so the carving reads clearly. It is not tarnish. A soft dry cloth on the raised surfaces is all the cleaning it needs; please don't use silver dip or polishing compound, which would strip the shading.

Can I return or exchange a piece?

Yes. Email us within 30 days of delivery and you can return a piece in the condition you received it for a full refund, with no restocking fee. Rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days. Engraved pieces, consecrated pieces and the Nine-Palace Zodiac Amulet are final sale unless they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. Refund policy

How do I find my ring size?

Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day, and make sure the size clears your knuckle. Our ring size guide has a US size chart and two easy ways to measure at home.

Can I wear it in water?

It depends on the piece. Pieces set with natural stones should come off before swimming or bathing and be wiped dry after contact with water. Each product page lists its stones and its own care notes.

How can I pay?

Checkout is through PayPal, where you can pay with your PayPal balance or with a credit or debit card. Prices are in US dollars.
