Design
Thirty-two grams, and nearly all of it is a face.
Thirty-two millimetres across, twenty-four deep, standing almost nine millimetres off the finger. This is not an emblem set into a band. It is a head, worn — ears reaching past the sides of the finger, trunk curling down over the knuckle, the whole weight of him sitting where everyone can see it.
Open your hand and he is looking at whoever is across from you.
Count the tusks. Nothing alive is born with six. That number is what takes him out of the animal world and has done for three thousand years — cut into temple gates across the Deccan, painted on monastery walls in the Himalaya, walking in gold armour ahead of the kings of Siam and Angkor. Two tusks is a beast. Six is a god, and he was never anything else.
A gold trident rises between the eyes. A line of gold beads runs the length of the trunk. Above, in a crown of silver filigree and hand-set gold granules, a single cabochon of Nanhong agate: opaque, blood-dark, the red the old carvers reached for when they wanted a thing to look alive.
1. Six tusks. Nothing in nature has six.
Two would have been easier, and no one would have counted. We cut six — fire-gilded, curving forward in pairs at three depths, each pair freed from the one behind it without the trunk losing its line.
Six is the image of the complete and the fearless: something with nothing left to develop, and nothing left to be afraid of.
2. A head, not a badge
Most animal rings are a face pressed flat into the top of a band. This one is carved in the round and stands 8.8mm proud of the finger.
The ears are cut free at their edges and flare outward with the grain of real ear. The brow carries weight. The trunk descends in a heavy spiral and tucks under itself rather than flattening into the shank. Look at him from the side and there is a skull under that silver.
3. Gold placed where a god is crowned
The six tusks. The trident between the eyes. The beaded line down the trunk. The granulation across the crown — gold spheres set one at a time under a 40× microscope, around a single Nanhong agate.
Those granules are the smallest work on the ring. By the law of this craft, they took the longest.
4. The eyes are the only trick
Everything on the head is oxidised down except the eyes, which are gilded so they catch light before the rest of the face does.
It is the reason he looks back at you, and the reason people across a table notice the ring before they notice the hand.
5. Left rough on purpose
Nothing here is polished smooth. Recesses are oxidised almost to black, raised planes brought back by hand, graver strokes left where they fell. Cloud scrollwork runs down both shoulders of the shank into the open back.
A sacred object that looks new looks like a souvenir. This one is meant to look like it was dug up, and then kept.
The Meaning
The elephant is the oldest sacred animal in Asia, and the only one that never had to be made frightening to be respected. He does not hurry. He does not posture. He remembers everything, and he moves anyway.
Six tusks make him something else again — not a strong animal but the finished form of strength: valour without violence, power that has stopped needing to prove itself.
A ring sits on the part of you that reaches, takes and gives. That is where we put him.
May what you reach for be worth the taking.
May your hand be steady, and slow.
May your strength look out from you and frighten no one.
Why we keep returning to this form
The elephant and the garuda are the two subjects we have spent the most years on. They are the hardest things we make — six tusks that must clear one another, feathers that must be freed row by row, gold that must be fused a millimetre at a time under glass.
We are not interested in making the most of them. We are interested in finding out how far hand-carved silver can be taken before it stops being jewellery and becomes sculpture.
Materials & craft
S925 sterling silver, carved by hand. Gold accents are traditional 24K fire-gilding, bonded into the silver at around 900 °C, not plated. Stones are natural and called by their real names.
Every piece is designed and handmade in China and finished by hand under a 40× microscope. How fire-gilding works

How every piece is made
The gold on every piece goes through four stages, each one done by hand.
Swipe to follow each stage

Gold leaf, laid by hand
The gold is 24K leaf, thick enough to pick up with tweezers. It is laid onto the silver in small pieces, one section of the carving at a time, and pressed down with a burnisher.

Cut under a 40× microscope
Every line is cut with a hand graver. The finest parts, an eye, a whisker, the edge where gold meets silver, are worked under a 40× microscope, where a slip of a tenth of a millimetre would show.

Gold only where it belongs
The leaf is worked along each scroll until it follows the carving exactly. Gold goes only where the design asks for it. The rest of the silver is left bare, to be darkened later so the carving reads.

Fused by fire at 900°C
Then the torch. At around 900°C, below gold's melting point of 1063°C, the leaf bonds into the silver and becomes part of it. The heat is judged by eye, one area at a time: too cool and the gold lifts later, too hot and the carving underneath is lost.
Afterwards every gilded edge is cut again under the microscope. This is fire-gilding, not ordinary gold plating.

Frequently asked questions
How long does delivery take?
Every piece is held in stock and ships within 1–3 business days (engraved pieces need about 3 more). Delivery with YunExpress then takes 5–8 business days, so most orders arrive within about two weeks. We email your tracking number as soon as the package leaves us.
Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?
No. We pay import duties, taxes and customs fees for every country we ship to. The total at checkout is the total you pay. If a carrier ever asks you for duty, don't pay it; email us and we will settle it.
What is fire-gilding, and how is it different from gold plating?
Gold foil is fused into the sterling silver by heat at around 900°C, then every edge is re-cut by hand under a 40× microscope. The gold becomes part of the piece, a real weight of 24K gold rather than the thin film of ordinary gold plating, so it does not lift, flake or wear thin. More on fire-gilding
Why is the silver dark in places?
The dark recesses are oxidation, added on purpose so the carving reads clearly. It is not tarnish. A soft dry cloth on the raised surfaces is all the cleaning it needs; please don't use silver dip or polishing compound, which would strip the shading.
Can I return or exchange a piece?
Yes. Email us within 30 days of delivery and you can return a piece in the condition you received it for a full refund, with no restocking fee. Rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days. Engraved pieces, consecrated pieces and the Nine-Palace Zodiac Amulet are final sale unless they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. Refund policy
How do I find my ring size?
Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day, and make sure the size clears your knuckle. Our ring size guide has a US size chart and two easy ways to measure at home.
Can I wear it in water?
It depends on the piece. Pieces set with natural stones should come off before swimming or bathing and be wiped dry after contact with water. Each product page lists its stones and its own care notes.
How can I pay?
Checkout is through PayPal, where you can pay with your PayPal balance or with a credit or debit card. Prices are in US dollars.
