The ground is dusted with fine sparkle, so the sky seems to glitter when the light moves.

The design

1. The face. A mint-green face with a calm, slightly amused look, under a crown of gold and dark crystals, inside a flame-orange halo ringed with gold beads.

2. The hands. Her left hand at her heart holds the stem of a flower; her right rests over her knee in the gesture of giving.

3. The throne. A tall throne below, with white snow lions on its front and an offering of jewels at its foot. The piece shown is framed in Ink & Gold brocade.

6. Hand finishing. The image is printed on heavy card from our own drawing; elderly lay Buddhists at a temple set every crystal by hand and trace the outlines in gold glitter, about two days for each piece.

The meaning

Green Tara is the one people call on at night, when worries get loud. This version keeps her in that hour: a night sky, warm flowers, and a face that does not seem worried at all. Framed in black and gold, it suits a bedroom or a quiet corner.

Every thangka is also an offering

Each one is finished at a temple, by elderly lay Buddhists who practise there. Part of every order goes back to that temple.
