green-tara-thangka-jade-green
Green Tara Thangka on a Jade-Green Ground – Framed Wall Art

Green Tara

Green Tara (Tibetan: Drolma, "she who liberates") is the female Buddha of swift, compassionate action. In this thangka everything around her is green as well: a jade-green ground, dark clouds edged in gold, and a halo of green leaves.

The design

1. The face. A mint-green face, half-closed eyes and a small red mouth, under a tall crown of gold studs.

2. The halo. A circle of gold studs, set one by one, around a halo patterned in pale gold.

3. Rays and flowers. Dark rays fan out behind her, and blue utpala flowers open at both shoulders.

4. Ready to rise. Her right hand rests by her knee in the gesture of giving, a string of gold beads around her wrist; her right foot steps down onto a small lotus. The piece shown is framed in Ink & Gold brocade.

5. Hand finishing. The image is printed on heavy card from our own drawing; elderly lay Buddhists at a temple set every crystal by hand and trace the outlines in gold glitter, about two days for each piece.

The meaning

Green is Tara's own colour, the colour of action, and here the painter has let it fill the whole sheet. Framed in black and gold, it reads like a window onto a garden. A thangka for a practice corner, or for anyone who needs a calm, living colour on the wall.

Every thangka is also an offering

Each one is finished at a temple, by elderly lay Buddhists who practise there. Part of every order goes back to that temple. So what you bring home is not only a thangka: you have also made an offering.

Size & details

Frame

55 × 71 × 12 cm (21.7 × 28 × 4.7 in), 4 kg

Image

40.2 × 56.2 cm (15.8 × 22.1 in)

Print

Heavy card, from our own drawing, to traditional proportions

Hand work

Glass crystals and gold glitter outlines, set by elderly lay Buddhists at a temple

Framing

Silk brocade frame-within-a-frame, wood frame, acrylic front

Brocade

Ink & Gold · Night Sky · Crimson Cloud · Warm Sun

Hanging

Ready to hang

Dispatch

Finished to order, ships in 3–5 business days

Delivery

10–14 business days by air, tracked, free, duties paid

May you always find your way back to quiet, green places.

Temple consecration (optional, +US$100): choose "Temple consecration" above.
