In the old cosmologies it stands at the centre of everything and joins what is below to what is above. Its roots go down into the dark and hold; its branches keep going anyway. Gold's own melting point is 1063°C, so the work happens inside a narrow window: hot enough for the gold to bond, not hot enough for it to run.

Every detail is then engraved and shaped by hand under a 40× microscope. The smaller the surface, the harder it gets — and here the gold has to follow a pierced tree through every branch and root without closing a single opening between them.

This is not ordinary gold plating: the gold is fired into the silver rather than deposited on its surface, so it becomes part of the piece — a real weight of gold, not a film.

Because that gold is bonded into the silver rather than laid on top of it, it does not lift, flake or wear thin.

The topaz is set deep and takes ordinary wear without complaint. Adjust the open band gently with your fingers, not with pliers, and only a little at a time. Wipe the ring dry after it has been in water.
